Faul Family Riverside Farm Chat & Chew
If you visit the LaGrange Farmers Market, then you probably have seen Faul Family Riverside Farm there selling their products. Did you know that they host “Chat & Chews” during the year?
The Chat & Chew events offer the community an opportunity to learn more about the farm, their practices, animals and also enjoy a homecooked meal in their outdoor event space.
More than likely the first thing that will catch your attention once you arrive at the farm is Tom. Tom is a beautiful, big white turkey freely roaming on the farm. He looks super intimidating, but he is a gentle giant that wants to greet everyone.
Once everyone has arrived, and of course had an opportunity to meet Tom, the Chat & Chew starts with a hayride around the farm. Our tour guide was one of the farmers, Andre. Andre pulled us around to different pastures to see the animals.
We learned about the farm’s cows, pigs, sheep, chickens and shrimp. Faul Family Riverside Farm prides itself on producing local, healthy and sustainable food to the community. Their animals are pasture-raised with organic feed. Andre explained the work involved in keeping up with these practices and how each animal contributes to the farm’s ecosystem.
One of the most interesting stops along the tour was to learn about the shrimp. One doesn’t hear about very many shrimp farmers in Kentucky and the Faul family is taking a different approach through the use of tanks rather than ponds. The tanks allow them to control what goes into the water and what the shrimp are exposed to. The shrimp were recently added to their products at the LaGrange Farmers market.
At the end of the tour, a lovely dinner is waiting for all of the guests. The event barn is a beautiful space to enjoy the meal, the views, company and maybe some songs from other family members. The meal we were served consisted of the farm’s pasture-raised chicken, a chopped salad and roasted vegetables. It was delicious, to say the least.
If your family enjoys learning about farms, we recommend attending the Faul Family Riverside Chat & Chew. You’ll leave with an even bigger appreciation for the hard work involved in running a farm and the sustainable practices at Faul Family Riverside Farm. The family is incredibly welcoming and do invite children on the tours. (Children 12 and under can attend for free.) You can find more information about their Chat & Chew events and how to purchase tickets on their website and Facebook page.
