Winter Break Fun

Winter Break is coming!

When all of the holiday plans settle, how are you going to fill your days over Winter Break?  Here are a few holiday related ideas as well as some others! Keep reading for more details about each one.

Get Outside!

Winter doesn’t mean that outdoor fun has to stop.  Hit an Oldham County trail.  One of our favorites is Harrods Creek.  Also, don’t forget that Yew Dell Botanical Gardens is free during the winter.

Ice Skating

Although, Oldham County does not have its own ice-skating rink, there is one close by. Check out this post here for places to ice-skate. Also, keep your eyes on the La Grange Parks & Rec page. Sometimes they post about free roller-skating nights at the community center.

Shop Small

If you’re looking for some last-minute gifts or stocking stuffers, Oldham County has plenty of stores and other businesses to help you.  Check out our Shop Small post here. Downtown LaGrange is also having a Scavenger Hunt contest until 12/31.  See their Facebook post here.

Summer, err WINTER Camps

Summer doesn’t get all of the fun when it comes to camps!  There are a couple of area winter camps for children.  A&R Workshop in Norton Commons is hosting a tie-dye winter camp.  Find more information here. All About Kids in Crestwood is also hosting a winter break camp.

Yes, we said relax.  This time of year is draining for many different reasons.  Pick up a good book from the Oldham County Library or relax with a warm drink.  If you need a night where someone else does the cooking, check out this fun dinner and music event at Erenesto’s.  Whichever way you choose to relax, make time for some slow activities.

Hit the Slopes

If skiing isn’t your jam, maybe try out tubing as a family!  Louisville Family Fun’s post here can help you make a choice of which place to visit over winter break.

Ride Around & Look at Christmas Lights

Our absolute favorite display is in Charlestown, Indiana at Charlestown’s Christmas in the City.  It is not a far drive if using the East End bridge.  Here is another post to check out for more ideas for enjoying holiday lights.

Pop-Tarts > Gingerbread

Ok, we tried this last winter break, and it was an absolute hit at our house! Swap out the boring store-bought gingerbread house kits and use pop-tarts and other candies to create your very own holiday house treat.  Learn more about it here.

Ask Santa (or the Grinch)

If you still need to meet with Santa to tell him all of your Christmas wishes, make sure you check out where you can see him.  The Paddock Shops has one more weekend of free carriage rides and visits with Santa.  The Pink Julep Boutique has a fun Bath Bomb Making night and the Grinch will be there too.  Learn more about these two events and more here.

Fa-La-La-La LaGrange

Free family fun on Saturday, December 18th 6-11pm at City Place in LaGrange.  Music, Karaoke, inflatables and cookies for sale.  Check out the event page here for more information!

Make sure you check out our Winter Page for all of our Winter ideas.
