How many places can boast that a train runs straight through Main Street?  Watching the trains in Downtown LaGrange can be entertaining along with the several special events during the year.  Be sure to check out these events and many more this year with your family!

photo kids art center arts on the green_zpshnrvteie.jpgArts on the Green – 130 juried artists line the Oldham County Courthouse Square for two days in June.  Peruse artwork from many mediums, listen to live music and enjoy delicious food.  Read our review here.  We also love the newly added event, Dixie Soul Fancy Flea.  Shop antique, vintage and re-purposed items in September.  We’re sure you’ll find something you HAVE to have at both events!

Summer Reading Kick-Off Celebration – The Oldham County Public Library system is amazing!  We have many reasons why we love the library and included in our list is the summer reading kick-off celebration! The celebration gets readers excited about continuing learning during summer break.  Their big celebration is held toward the end of the Oldham County school year at the Main Library in LaGrange and offers entertainment, family resources, treats and more!  Read more about the OC library here.

Black Aquatic Center.  On the 4th of July, families can enjoy a day filled with swimming, fun activities in the pool and park and then a fireworks display at night.

Oldham County Day – Nothing feels like home like a great parade through your town square!  Oldham County Day brings families, businesses, local heroes, community helpers and others from around the county together in Downtown LaGrange.  We love seeing familiar faces, the pride shown in the floats and the fun and excitement as kids gather candy and treats from the parade.  There are opportunities for families to participate in the parade and other fun activities during the weekend too.

IronMan Louisville – You either love it or would rather it be somewhere else, but we love that Oldham County is included in IronMan Louisville!  Every fall, spectators can line the rural roads of Oldham County and also roads in Downtown LaGrange.  Bicyclists make their way in front of the courthouse and are greeted by hundreds of locals and out-of-towners cheering them on during their 112 mile journey.  It’s exciting and inspiring to see these athletes.  Have a little fun on the courthouse square with a picnic lunch from one of the local eateries, listen to music or maybe even let the kids jump in a bounce house.

Light Up LaGrange – Get in the holiday spirit at this December event.  Held at the Courthouse Square in Downtown LaGrange, families can watch as the LaGrange streets are lit up with vibrant lights and decorations.  Visit with other families, community heroes, leaders and businesses.  Sing along to live music and enjoy hot cocoa or coffee while walking along Main Street.  You might even spot Santa and the Grinch and have a chance to make your own candy cane at City Place!

Pick a few special events to attend this year with your family in LaGrange!  You’ll love this Historic city!
