Indoor Activities in Oldham County, Kentucky

Let’s face it, Kentucky weather is unpredictable! Don’t skip the family fun just because the weather doesn’t want to cooperate.

When the weather won’t cooperate, these indoor options and ideas in Crestwood, Buckner, LaGrange, Pewee Valley, Prospect and Goshen offer families some fun! 
Families can swim, have a nerf gun fight, play pool, catch a play or take it easy with a board game.  Sometimes it takes a little creativity to get through a gloomy, freezing or too hot day.  There’s definitely plenty of options below to still have fun indoors.

Indoor Fun in Alphabetical Order

All About Kids Sports Center – Open gym and swim times available and various classes, too! (Crestwood)

Creasey Mahan Nature Center – Explore the exhibits and activities inside the nature center. (Goshen) (Currently closed due to COVID.)

Everyone Can Paint – Paint your own masterpiece or sign up for a guided paint lesson.  Located in historic Downtown LaGrange, so there’s plenty more indoor places to explore during your visit. (LaGrange)

Game On – This fun business offers pool, shuffleboard, darts and a large variety of games.  Food and beverages are also available for purchase.  The games are very affordable. (LaGrange)

Horse Riding Lessons – Oldham County is not lacking in places for indoor riding fun! Choose your barn!

John W. Black Community Center – various events and activities planned during the year. (LaGrange)

Judith M Millinery Supply – We all know that Kentucky is famous for the Derby.  Lucky for us, we have a great shop that specializes in all things hats! The Judith M Millinery Supply shop also hosts workshops throughout the year.  What a unique indoor option! (LaGrange)

LaGrange Coffee Roasters – Settle in at a table with the kids, a cup of hot cocoa and a board game. (LaGrange)

LaGrange Community Center – The center offers Oldham County residents access to an indoor walking track, basketball court and other activities. Special events like Roller Skate Nights planned during the year. (LaGrange)

LaGrange Railroad Museum – Open for free tours (donations appreciated). (LaGrange)

Library Children’s Story Time & Special Events – We are lucky to have some super creative and fun librarians at our local library branches. Check out their calendar for special events and try out one of their story times!  Many other activities for all ages and interests! (LaGrange, Crestwood & Goshen) (Many activities are on hold right now due to COVID, but there’s still plenty to do at the branches.)

Little Colonel Playhouse – Check out the local talent in a play! (Most shows are geared toward an older, mature audience. They do have one show a year that includes high school students and actors.) (Pewee Valley)

McDonald’s LaGrange Play Place – Yes, McDonald’s! Our young kids love getting a sweet treat and playing in the play place, especially after story time at the library! (LaGrange)

Music Bingo Night – Play music bingo for free at Ernesto’s in LaGrange.  Follow them on Facebook for updated bingo dates.

Oldham County History Hounds & Historical Society – Story time and history lesson for children (birth up to 5) in the Rob Morris Educational Building. (Program runs Sept-Dec and Feb-May) Be sure to tour the NEWLY renovated History Center building also! (Lagrange)

Oldham County Schools Arts Center – Sing, dance, create, act, learn how to play an instrument! So many programs, special shows and one-day classes are available! (Crestwood)

Open Range Reball & Nerf – Play reball (similar to paintball, but without the mess) or nerf guns with your older (age 10+) children in the indoor arena. (Crestwood)

Pink Julep Boutique – Calling all beauty lovers!  This cute boutique in Prospect has a beauty bar where young kids can create their own beauty products.  They also offer candle-making workshops and schedule fun events during the year. (Prospect)

Power & Grace Gymnastics & Dance – Open gym, parent’s night out, camps, special events and classes are available for several ages.  (Prospect)

YMCA – The Buckner YMCA is such a fun, family-friendly place! Members can check in the kids in the activity center, shoot basketball in the gym or swim! They plan several other events throughout the year open to the community. Special Open Field Play Dates and events in their indoor arena are also offered at different times throughout the year.  (Small fee for non-members.)
