Experience Gift Ideas in Oldham County

If you don’t want to shop for more “stuff” consider giving an experience gift this holiday season. There are several options around Oldham County for children and adults.

Plan a day of fun, a semester of learning or a membership for those on your holiday list. Giving the gift of time is something everyone can appreciate and cherish. 

Gift a Membership

Memberships are great gifts and will usually pay for itself after a few visits. If you have a nature lover to buy for, consider a membership to Yew Dell Botanical Gardens in Crestwood.  Members receive discounted pricing for the special events at Yew Dell, too.  A membership to the Oldham County Family YMCA allows families to swim, work out and play together.  There is a membership option that also allows access to other area YCMA locations expanding the experience even more.  We are so hopeful that the John Black Aquatic Center will eventually open back up for our community.  A summer pool membership is a great gift.  Pewee Valley’s Little Colonel’s Players has season passes available for the theatre enthusiast, too.  Perhaps a subscription to a local CSA or beef bundle would be a wonderful gift this year!  Some Oldham County farms to check out: Hunter Creek Farms, Rootbound Farm, Ashlock Farms, Foxhollow Farm and Ashbourne Farms. A subscription for beautiful flowers from Rosedale Farm would truly be unique and amazing.

Gift a Holiday or Other Special Event Experience

Oldham County hosts some great events throughout the year.  Is there someone on your list that always wishes for tickets to a special dinner or event? Buy them tickets while also supporting local organizations.  Adopt Me Bluegrass hosts a special “Bourbon to the Rescue” fundraiser in the Spring.  The Super Drew Derby Fundraiser at Third Turn Oldham Gardens is another great option to spend time together.  Hermitage Farm is another local attraction that hosts several dinner, horse tour and bourbon events throughout the year.  If you missed this year’s Nutcracker in a Nutshell production, set a reminder to get tickets for next year.  Dancers from Crestwood’s Gillman’s Dance Academy are in this condensed Nutcracker production and it’s perfect for children to experience. Gift Unique Classes

There are several spots around Oldham County for different lessons.  Gift classes for gymnastics, martial arts, music and more.  Some local favorites include All About Kids Sports, Power & Grace Gymnastics, Bounce Back Gymnastics, Next Level Martial Arts and the Oldham County Schools Arts Center.  The Oldham County YMCA is another option for learning a new sport or swim lessons.  Everyone Can Paint and Mudsplats Ceramics (both in LaGrange) have classes that you and your loved one can do together too.  Of course, Oldham County has several options for someone to take horseback riding lessons.

Gift One on One Time

A nice meal shared together is always well received.  Take your friend or family member out for a nice cup of coffee or tea to catch up over the holidays.  Another fun, unique option for some special one on one time, is to go to Little Big Gem and Mine Rock Shop.  Visitors can “mine” for rocks and gems together.  Nachand Canoe & Kayak is a great option for warmer months for spending time together outside floating down Harrods Creek.  A gift certificate or night together at Sauerbeck Family Drive-in is a great gift idea for all ages! LaGrange’s Emerge Escape Room is also a fun, unique gift option.

Gift a Local Tour

More one on one time can include a local tour.  TRF Sanctuary Farm and Hermitage Farm offer tours of the farm and property.  We also loved touring Harvest Home Dairy and Woodland Farm.  Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve has special events including workshops and hiking that would be appreciated by your outdoorsy friends and family.  Buy tickets to attend with your loved one or gift a gift certificate.

Gift a Summer Camp

Your loved one will appreciate your winter thoughtfulness when school is out and summer boredom sets in.  Oldham County has many Summer Camp options.  You can see what was available in 2023 here for ideas.

Gift a Local Getaway

Do you have someone on your shopping list that could use a night away? Oldham County has some unique Bed & Breakfast places to enjoy such as: Pillow & Paddock Bed & Breakfast, The Inn at Spring Run Farm and Bluegrass Country Estate.  A unique overnight spot is located in LaGrange at The Meadow House at either the Lawyer’s Overlook or their small cabin.
